Black Bear Island Lake Lodge is a well managed and clean resort. The owners, DJ and Dawn are great people who treat their guest like family. From the moment you make your reservation until you arrive home from your vacation you are priority. The food is top shelf with more than you can possibly eat. Once you head on the water for your day of fishing you will be amazed at the friendly and knowledgable guides that take you on the water. They know the area so well and will even show you some areas with rock paintings. Lunch was a favourite of our group of twelve where we would meet on the beautiful shores of Black Bear Lake and the guides would cook fish caught by us in the morning. You will learn many things from the guides as they prepare your lunch for you while you enjoy the spectacular views. Lunch was a time for us to compare our catches of the morning and to see who was ahead. Special note to Randal, our guide who was great. My husband and I had our own little competition going and he added to the fun. He is very knowledgable with the lake and history surrounding the area. Thank you DJ, Dawn, Guides and all the staff that are behind the scene for making our trip flawless. Your hard work and dedication is evident and was appreciated by our entire group.
Words cannot describe how absolutely beautiful this location is! The fishing was incredible I caught a 45 inch Pike the week I was there. Shore lunch was caught by us and cooked in front of us on the shore of a island , absolutely amazing! The breathtaking sunrise was my favorite part of the morning, quiet all you hear the loons off in the distance . I sat on my front porch each morning watching the sun come up over a small island in front of me and the water reflecting the beauty of the nature surrounding me. I so loved hanging out with DJ and Dawn the owners as we all had breakfast and dinners together in the main lodge. They shared not only meals but many stories & lots of laughs. The guides took us out each day to fish they know their way around and taught me how to fish. They knew exactly where to take me to find the honey holes as they would call them so that I could catch a big,one and I did! It was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime ,bucket list trip you will want to return every year !
Great lodge and hosts, but most important best fishing in Canada,Every year our group gets 10-25 northern pike over 40 inches. I've been coming to Canada fishing since the early 80's and this is the best fishing for northern pike I've ever experienced. Fl y-in, meals, guides, all inclusive. Great place and beautiful. Black Bear Island Lodge is the closest thing there is next to heaven! I have gone there for 4 years and the minute I get off the airplane and on to the dock, I begin to feel my energy re-charging from the demands of life. The fishing is amazing, the guides are great, and the hosts make you feel right at home. I look forward to my next trip there and HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone looking for the best vacation of their life!
I researched as much as I could before I went to Black Bear Island Lodge. Still part of me wondered if this place was really as special as everyone comments on. Well I can tell you the answer is absolutely yes! Once the float plane took off and I was able to see just how amazing the area we were going to was I knew this was going to be a great week. The lodge was perfect, the fish were massive, and the bear hunting was insane! DJ, Dawn, and my guide Trevor were fantastic. I enjoyed every moment of this trip. If you are considering Black Bear Island Lodge I PROMISE you that you are making the right decision. I will be taking my oldest son here in a few years as soon as he is old enough. My friends and I are already planning our next trip back. Thank you so much for such a fantastic week!
